Sarang vest is the little sister to Sarang Sweater. The original sweater was made for me by my mother, so it felt important to give it a special name that suits it - – sarang means love in Korean.  With Sarang vest, I wished to revisit the characteristic cable pattern from the original sweater, but in a lighter expression. The result is a loose and airy summer top with a wide silhouette and extended shoulders that fall slightly over the upper arm. Cables run throughout the vest, adding structure and character to an otherwise simple shape. Sarang can be worn alone as a light summer top or can also be worn as a vest over a blouse, t-shirt or dress.

CONSTRUCTION

Sarang is worked from top to bottom. First the back shoulders are worked individually, then are joined and the back is worked back and forth. Then stitches are picked up for each shoulder, and the shoulders are worked individually, before joining for the front piece. The front and back pieces are worked back and forth, while gradually casting on new stitches for armhole shaping. The new stitches are then worked into the established cable pattern. Then both pieces are joined for the body, which is worked in the round with cables. Finally, the vest is finished with i-cords around the neck opening and armholes.

DIFFICULTY

Medium to difficult.

SIZES

1 (2) 3 (4) 5

Bust circumference approx.: 104 (110) 117 (124) 131 cm

Shoulder width approx. 42 (42) 44 (44) 46 cm

Armhole depth approx. 20 (20) 21 (21) 23 cm

Size guide:

Sarang can be worked with both a more classic fit or a loose and airy fit.  Choose the size that best fits your desired positive ease.  As a summer top, a positive ease of approx. 5–15 cm is recommended, while a more oversized fit can have up to approx. 15–20 cm of positive ease.

The model has a chest circumference of approx. 85 cm and is wearing size 1, which gives a circumference of approx. 104 cm, which is about 19 cm of positive ease.
