Umma top is the baby sister of Umma cape, with its signature overlapping criss-cross detail on the front and all-over garter stitch. The top will feel like a piece of knitted architecture and has a cropped, boxy fit. It is worked in a combination of linen, wool and cotton and can be used as a top or a vest for both cool and warm climates.

CONSTRUCTION

You begin on the left shoulder on the back where you make increases for the neckline, then move on to knit the right shoulder on the back with increases for the neckline. The pieces are then joined to form the back. Next, you pick up and knit the two inner front pieces, followed by the two outer front pieces to create the overlapping criss-cross construction. When all pieces are joined, you knit the rest of the body flat while making increases on the front, finishing with an i-cord edge at the hem and neckline.

DIFFICULTY

Umma top is categorized as difficult.
